Save the Date: 3rd Annual Strike Out Pediatric Leukemia Baseball Game

Save the date! Leukemia Texas is excited to host our third annual ‘Strike Out Pediatric Leukemia’ baseball game on Sunday, April 28th at RoughRiders Field in Frisco, TX.

Two teams of local high school baseball players will play in a charity baseball game that raises funds for LTX patients and programs. The players also compete to sell Buddy Bears to friends and family.

The event is sponsored by our wonderful friends at Texas Oncology. Thank you to Texas Oncology for supporting ‘Strike Out’ as our title sponsor!

Tickets are $25 each and include admission to the 4:05pm Frisco RoughRiders game, followed by the charity baseball game at approximately 7:00pm. Each ticket purchased will also sponsor a Buddy Bear stuffed toy for a leukemia patient in a local hospital.

Junior high school student Jordan Seinera is once again our Chair for the 2024 ‘Strike Out’ Committee, and this year’s Honorary Chair is Lucy Garza (click here to learn more about Lucy’s story in another blog post!).

“Kids growing up with something like that is terrible, and I wanted to give back to them by doing something like this. It makes me feel good to know that I’m helping them,” said Jordan. “I’ve played baseball with most of these guys at some point during my life. We’re excited to raise money for such a worthy cause by playing the game we love so much at an incredible stadium. My family has been involved with Leukemia Texas for a long time, so this is a great fit to continue to help others.”

In 2022, the first ‘Strike Out’ raised more than $75,000, and last year we raised more than $80,000. This year Jordan’s fundraising goal is to exceed $80,000 again. That amount would provide 80 children and their families with a Patient Aid Grant to help them offset their living, travel, and medical expenses.

Lori Seinera, Jordan’s mother and former LTX board member, is especially proud. “Just seeing my son really excited about giving back to the community — especially to children — just warms my heart,” she said. “I think it’s great for these young men to be doing what they’re doing and raising money for Leukemia Texas. I’m thrilled for all these boys. I hope it will stay with them forever.”

There are 3 different ways you can support this event. Here’s how to get involved:

You can purchase a sponsorship package or make a donation. The sponsorship levels include tickets to the game, as well as other perks and benefits, and range from $100 to $5,000.

You can also “adopt” a Buddy Bear for $25, giving each patient a huggable companion to join them for treatments during their hospital stay. Every bear will come with a note of encouragement, letting them know they are not alone and are truly cared for.

And lastly, you can simply purchase individual tickets to attend the games on the RoughRiders web site. Tickets are $25 and get you access to both baseball games.

“We are honored to have these thoughtful and good young people believe in what we do and to help us help others in such a significant way,” said Leukemia Texas CEO, Jessica Dunn. “This is a great way to engage everyone and we’re beyond excited.”

We hope you’ll join us for a fun day at the field as we ‘strike out pediatric leukemia’ together!
