LTX Spotlight Story: Courtney

When we receive patient aid stories, we like to share them with others in our community, and spotlight those patients who have greatly benefited from our LTX programs. We recently heard from Courtney, one of our recently funded patients, who shared a very special message.

Dear Mandy and my new friends at Leukemia Texas,

Thank you so much for your support and assistance during such a difficult time. I received your donation and letter of encouragement during a much-needed time. It was just the blessing I needed to lift my spirits that day; it really was perfect timing!

As requested, I’d be happy to share a bit of my journey with you. I was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) in March 2021. My life completely stopped, and I have been in treatment and in and out of the hospital for the last couple of years.

In the Fall of 2021, I went into remission, but relapsed in February 2022. I then received more treatment and had more hospital stays to get me back into remission. In June 2022 I traveled to MDA in Houston for a bone marrow transplant. My transplant date was July 11, 2022. I stayed in Houston until November 2022 and thankfully got to come home just before Thanksgiving.

Since the transplant, I have been receiving maintenance chemo and have been focusing on my healing and recovery. I recently received good news that I am cancer free, and I was able to stop all chemo entirely. I have made really great progress since a year ago; God has truly blessed me with a miracle!

I would appreciate your prayers for my next biopsy and upcoming appointments at MDA in Houston in November.

Your gift to me was such an encouragement and lifted my spirits during a much-needed time.  Your prayers and support have made a positive impact in my life, and I am so thankful for your time, resources and prayers, they have been a great blessing to me!

Thank you again and I hope we can stay in touch!
